The Position:
The Communications and Resource Mobilization Associate will report directly to the Head of UNFPA Cuba Office and will work closely with UNFPA programme and operations teams, the regional office, government counterparts, technical advisors and experts, and civil society to support the management of prioritized activities under the UNFPA Country Programme in Cuba. External contacts include media outlets, journalists, multimedia producers, translators, printers, print suppliers, editors, UNFPA counterparts, and others.
How you can make a difference:
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2025), reaffirms the relevance of the current strategic direction of UNFPA and focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030. Our strategic plan calls upon UN Member States, organizations and individuals to “build forward better”, while addressing the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on women’s and girls’ access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, recover lost gains and realize our goals.
In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.
UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
Job Purpose:
To contribute to these results, the UNFPA Office in Cuba is implementing a Country Programme (CP) for the period 2020-2025. This is the ninth since 1971, when cooperation with the Government of Cuba began. The program includes four outputs aligned with the three aforementioned transformative outcomes. It is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework of the United Nations System in Cuba.
The Country Program contributes to reducing preventable maternal mortality and eliminating unmet needs for family planning, primarily among adolescents and young people. To this end, it supports the country in implementing policies and programs that ensure coverage and access to quality sexual and reproductive health services. It is also committed to working with the government and civil society organizations to reduce gender inequalities, prevent and address gender-based violence, early marriages, and adolescent pregnancy, through the design and implementation of prevention, care, and protection policies and programs. The program includes commitments to understanding and addressing the country's demographic dynamics at the national and territorial levels and to conducting national surveys and studies, as well as the Population and Housing Census.
UNFPA works at the national and subnational levels with a wide range of partners, including government institutions, donors, academia, civil society organizations, grassroots organizations, women's organizations, and youth organizations, especially those representing the most disadvantaged populations.
In 2025, UNFPA and its national partners are formulating a new Country Programme (CP) for the period 2026-2030. This requires developing a communications strategy that monitors the progress made during the current program and also serves as a mechanism for acceleration and ownership of this new Country Programme. At the same time, this strategy must be in dialogue with the Resource Mobilization and Partnership Mobilization Plan being developed as part of the new CP process. Both instruments facilitate the implementation of key interventions, reach the populations identified as primary beneficiaries, and expand financial resources and partnerships that support UNFPA's mandate in the country.
