Global health experts, policymakers and advocates will come together to discuss demographic shifts, health and well-being across all ages at a timely side event during the fifty-eighth session of the Commission on Population and Development.

The event, “Intergenerational Dialogue: Ensuring healthy lives – Bridging generations for action,” is organized by UNFPA and the Republic of Benin, Kingdom of Denmark, Republic of India, Government of Japan, Republic of Lebanon, Republic of Moldova, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Republic of Uruguay and the UN Youth Office, and will feature UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem among the speakers.

The latest session of the Commission on Population and Development provides a critical platform to advance the Programme of Action of the landmark International Conference on Population and Development amid a changing demographic landscape.

Globally, aging populations face an increased prevalence of chronic diseases; the impact is disproportionately severe in low- and middle-income countries. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization reports a sharp rise in mental health issues among young people. And many young people still lack access to essential sexual and reproductive health and rights services.

Addressing the health challenges facing both younger and older populations requires a cross-generational approach that promotes healthy longevity and fosters intergenerational fairness. This event builds on the April 2024 ICPD30 Global Youth Dialogue held in Cotonou, Benin, and the solutions in the forward-facing Cotonou Youth Action Agenda, to bridge generations for health and well-being.
