Donor Rankings, 2024

3rd Core Contributions
7th Non Core Contributions
5th Overall Contributions

Donor rankings include UN-to-UN transfers, which are UNFPA's top source of revenue overall.

The Government of Sweden has been a steadfast supporter of UNFPA’s mission, championing the rights and well-being of women and girls through both financial contributions and collaborative partnerships. A defender of sexual and reproductive health and rights, Sweden is a provider of vital core funding, which enables UNFPA to plan long-term, maintain a global presence and effectively respond flexibly to emergencies and humanitarian crises. In 2023, Sweden was the third-largest donor of core resources.

Aligned with UNFPA’s priorities, Sweden’s development policy, “Aid for a New Era. Freedom, Empowerment and Sustainable Growth,” underscores sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender equality as priorities of the Government. The policy emphasizes strengthening women's and girls' self-determination, increased access to modern contraceptives, and comprehensive sexuality education for all. Sweden’s global leadership in humanitarian assistance worldwide is reflected in commitments to UNFPA’s response to crises in Ukraine, Moldova, Palestine, and Afghanistan, among others.

Sweden is the main contributor to UNFPA’s Maternal Health Thematic Fund, which trains midwives, performs fistula repair surgeries and delivers other maternal health support to countries with high maternal death rates. Additional areas of collaboration between Sweden and UNFPA include HIV prevention; programmes to end gender-based violence; sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes; and efforts to abandon female genital mutilation.
